The Demico Battery Ground Transducer is a unique dual function transducer which incorporates the functionality of both versions of our BA series Battery Transducer as well as a completely new function monitoring the battery to earth ground isolation.
Standard practice in SCADA systems is to keep the Battery power system isolated from the earth grounded AC power system. Failure to maintain isolation can result in incorrect or unstable readings from sensors, malfunctioning controls, or even damage to equipment. Causes can be errors in wiring, insulation breakdown, or even equipment design. Now the Battery Ground Transducer can alert the SCADA system when the problem first occurs, and when it is corrected.
This transducer is powered from the battery it is monitoring, eliminating the need for an additional power source. A simple resistor from 0 to 10,000 ohms is all that is required to scale and interface to a standard RTU analog input. The transducer outputs’ galvanic isolation from the battery eliminates ground loops and ground referenced noise.
Two switch selectable output options are included for the Battery Voltage output. A slide switch next to the terminal block selects either the linear output like our BA_11 series, or offset linear output like our BA_12 series. See the output charts and graphs at the links for the individual models in the chart below.
The Battery Ground output is a bipolar current source. If the positive terminal of the battery is the source of the Battery power to earth ground leakage, then the current output will be positive 0 - 1mA. If the negative terminal of the battery is the source of the Battery power to earth ground leakage, the current output will be negative 0 - 1mA
The microcomputer based circuitry is stable across the specified operating range.
